TASAC REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABLE MARITIME INVESTMENT

The Tanzania Shipping Agencies Corporation (TASAC), today, 28 October 2026, has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting sustainable maritime investment, effective regulation, and regional integration to enhance the competitiveness of Tanzania’s maritime sector.

The commitment was conveyed by Mr. Julius Mitinje, representing the Director General of TASAC, Mr. Mohamed Salum, during the Ports and Maritime Investment Forum and Exhibitions 2026, held at Johari Rotana in Dar es Salaam.

Delivering the message of support, Mr. Mitinje commended PMAESA, the Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA), and other partners for organising the forum, describing it as an important platform for strengthening partnerships, exchanging expertise, and identifying solutions to challenges facing the maritime sector.

He emphasised that maritime transport plays a vital role in facilitating international trade, improving regional connectivity, creating employment, and promoting economic development.

Mr. Mitinje further highlighted the importance of effective maritime regulation, compliance with international standards, safety and security, environmental protection, and efficient service delivery in creating a conducive environment for sustainable investment.

He reaffirmed TASAC’s commitment to regulate port and shipping services, promote maritime safety and security, protect the marine environment, and support the development of a safe, efficient, and competitive maritime sector.

He also called for stronger regional cooperation among maritime administrations, port authorities, development partners, and private investors to modernise infrastructure, advance digitalisation, promote green ports, and improve transport connectivity.

Mr. Mitinje stressed that maritime investments should generate tangible benefits through increased trade, employment creation, technology transfer, and improved service delivery. He encouraged stakeholders to translate discussions into practical partnerships and viable investment projects that strengthen regional integration and contribute to Africa’s economic transformation.

The forum, organised by the Port Management Association of Eastern and Southern Africa (PMAESA), brought together government leaders, port authorities, maritime administrations, development partners, investors, and private-sector representatives to explore investment opportunities in the maritime industry.
