The Director General of the Tanzania Shipping Agencies Corporation (TASAC), Mr. Mohamed Salum, today, 26 August, 2026, held discussions with delegations from the Zanzibar Maritime Authority (ZMA) and Tanzania Zanzibar International Register of Shipping (TZIRS) at TASAC Headquarters in Dar es Salaam.

The ZMA delegation comprised Ms. Salma Suleiman Omar, Director of Port and Shipping Services and Acting Director of Ship Registration and Seafarers; Ms. Zuhura Khamis Rajab, Ship Registration Officer; and Mr. Seif Omar Vuai, Ship Inspector.

TZIRS was represented by General Manager, Eng. Eduardo Simon and Chief Executive Officer of IME GROUP, Mr. Javier Bru. TZIRS serves as Deputy Registrar of International Ships and a Recognized Organization (RO) for ZMA.

The TASAC delegation was led by Mr. Salum and included Adv. Leticia Mutaki, Director of Maritime Safety, Security and Environment, and Eng. Said Kaheneko, Acting Manager for Ship Registration and Survey.

The meeting provided an opportunity for the delegations to introduce themselves, exchange experiences and discuss areas of mutual interest in the maritime sector.

Discussions focused on strengthening cooperation between TASAC and ZMA in international ship registration. The parties emphasised effective coordination, compliance with international maritime standards and the exchange of technical information to support the registration and oversight of ships operating under the national flag.

The meeting also explored ways to improve access to maritime information and updates from the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) to implement evolving international regulatory requirements.

Mr. Salum welcomed continued engagement with ZMA and TZIRS and reaffirmed TASAC’s commitment to working closely with maritime stakeholders to promote safe, secure, competitive and environmentally sustainable maritime transport.

The engagement forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen institutional cooperation, enhance the implementation of international maritime instruments and improve Tanzania’s participation in the global maritime industry.
