TASAC PARTICIPATES IN PAN-AFRICAN MARITIME WORKSHOP IN MOMBASA TO ADVANCE GREEN SHIPPING AGENDA

The Tanzania Shipping Agencies Corporation (TASAC) is participating in the Association of African Maritime Administrations (AAMA) Members Technical Workshop being hosted by the Kenya Maritime Authority (KMA) at Sarova Whitesands Resort, Mombasa.

TASAC is represented by a high-level delegation led by the Director General, Mr. Mohamed Salum. He is accompanied by Advocate Leticia Mutaki, Director for Maritime Safety, Security and Environment; Advocate Judith Kakongwe, Director Legal Services; and Dr. Devotha Mandanda, Alternate Permanent Representative of the United Republic of Tanzania to the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

TASAC’s participation places Tanzania within the continent-wide technical conversation on how regulators can respond to emerging environmental requirements, modernise oversight systems, and strengthen cooperation across jurisdictions. This aligns with TASAC’s statutory role in maritime safety and security oversight and in preventing pollution from ships responsibilities that are central to a credible transition toward greener maritime operations.

The forum has convened about 70 participants drawn from 30 African countries, alongside representatives of the African Union, to strengthen collaboration on Africa’s shift toward cleaner and more resilient maritime systems.

Held under the theme “Aligning Africa’s Maritime Transition with Green Industrialisation Opportunities,” the workshop is focusing on practical pathways for maritime administrations to steer the sector toward low-carbon operations while supporting industrial development. Discussions are covering green shipping, port decarbonisation, maritime innovation, and policy alignment, with an emphasis on how shipping and ports can contribute to inclusive economic growth and climate action across the continent.

The engagement in Mombasa also builds on TASAC’s continued involvement in AAMA processes, following recent continental convenings hosted in Tanzania and ongoing capacity-building initiatives aimed at improving maritime governance and preparedness.
