The Tanzania Shipping Agencies Corporation (TASAC) today, 23 September 2026, has convened a stakeholders’ consultative meeting to address safety, security and operational challenges affecting motor vehicles during discharge and transfer operations at the Port of Dar es Salaam.

The meeting brought together key stakeholders involved in vehicle discharge, inspection, security, and transfer operations to assess existing challenges and identify practical measures to improve the safety, security, and efficiency of vehicle handling from discharge to transfer from the port.

Speaking during the meeting, TASAC Acting Director General, CPA Pascal Karomba, emphasised the importance of strengthening collaboration, coordination and accountability among stakeholders involved in the vehicle handling process.

He called for improved information sharing and accurate record-keeping to address challenges related to vehicle movements, accessory theft, inspection records, and delays associated with road congestion.

CPA Karomba further stressed the need for practical preventive measures and proper documentation of vehicles and their accessories throughout the handling process to safeguard vehicles and enhance efficiency in port operations.

Key issues discussed included procedures for obtaining and sharing vehicle movement reports, with stakeholders underscoring the need for timely and reliable information to facilitate effective tracking of vehicles during transfer.

The meeting also addressed concerns over the theft of vehicle accessories, highlighting the need for stronger preventive measures, monitoring and accountability among stakeholders.
Stakeholders further discussed reviewing the Vehicle Inspection Report (VIR) to ensure all items and accessories found in vehicles during inspection are properly recorded, strengthening transparency, accountability, and traceability in cases involving missing or damaged items.

The meeting also considered road congestion and its impact on timely vehicle transfers, with stakeholders calling for coordinated interventions to minimise delays and facilitate smooth vehicle movement.
