TASAC HOLDS STAKEHOLDERS’ MEETING ON DRY PORT TARIFF REVIEW
The Tanzania Shipping Agencies Corporation (TASAC) today convened a high-level consultative meeting with stakeholders to collect views on the ongoing review of dry port tariffs aimed at improving efficiency and competitiveness in the maritime and logistics sector. The meeting was held on May 18, 2026, at the Dar es Salaam College of Tourism Conference Hall in Dar es Salaam, in accordance with Notice No. 459 of 2022.
Speaking on behalf of the TASAC Director General, Mr. Nelson Mlali, who is the Director of Maritime Transport Regulation, emphasized the importance of stakeholder engagement in shaping reforms that reflect market realities and operational needs. He explained that the review seeks to improve cargo clearance processes, update tariff regulations issued in 2020 and 2025, and encourage greater use of rail transport and private sector participation to ease port congestion.
“This process is not merely about compliance, but about introducing practical reforms that will improve efficiency and reduce bottlenecks across the logistics chain,” Mr. Mlali said.
Meanwhile, TASAC Director of Economic Regulation, Mr. Nahson Sigalla, highlighted ongoing efforts to reduce congestion of cargo and vessels through improved operational efficiency and better utilization of port infrastructure. He noted that streamlined trade flows would strengthen the competitiveness of Tanzania’s ports within the region while lowering logistics costs for traders.
Representing the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport, Deputy Director of Transport, Mr. Mussa Shashula, commended stakeholders for their active participation and assured them that their views would be considered in the tariff review process.
Stakeholders from the maritime and logistics sector praised TASAC for continuously involving them in regulatory reforms, noting that such engagement promotes transparency and ensures reforms are practical and responsive to industry realities.
TASAC has announced that written stakeholder submissions on the tariff review will continue to be received until May 22, 2026, through tariff@tasac.go.tz.
